Not officially named or mined until 1974, Larimar is a rare type of pectolite found only in the Dominican Republic. Pectolite usually contains calcium & sodium, but Larimar’s unique composition of copper & sodium creates its coveted blue coloration. The name larimar comes from its discoverer’s daughter’s name, Larissa, & the Spanish word for sea, mar. Larimar balances water & fire energies with its oceanic appearance & volcanic origins.
